Kathmandu : The Melamchi Municipality has urged the city dwellers not to live in risky houses.

According to the municipality, the landslide is still likely to come from the landslide-prone area and due to the rainy season, the preparations for cleaning the houses in the lower market of Melamchi and staying there are not suitable in terms of risk.

An appeal has been issued by the mayor, Dambar Aryal, urging them not to engage in hazardous activities such as cleaning, repairing and rehabilitating houses in high-risk areas during the rainy season.

Taking necessary initiatives for the construction of houses for the flood-affected people from the inner Talamarang to the protection of the settlements on the banks of Dhadkhola.

An appeal issued by the municipality on Tuesday said that it has been working tirelessly since July 20 to control the river and protect the settlement.

The municipality is happy that no human casualties have been reported due to timely information. For the time being, the municipality has provided shelter to the affected people at Indreshwari Secondary School for 15 days.

Mayor Aryal informed that the municipality has played a role in providing gas, stove, bedding, utensils and rations to the desired place. He also said that food was distributed for one month by arranging coupons.

Assessing the condition of the upper part of the landslide, the municipality has been continuously working to reduce the damage by stopping the erosion of the river in the lower coastal area as per the continuous advice and suggestions of the concerned subject matter experts.

So far, the municipality has used and operated 1,278 gavin boxes, 478 tip stones and seven machines in the river for one consecutive month.
