Butwal : Seeing that the budget would not be passed by the Lumbini Provincial Assembly, Chief Minister Shankar Pokharel boycotted the meeting. Together with the state chief, the annual session of the state assembly ended without passing the budget. Pokharel has acted like Oli at the Center by ending the meeting of the assembly after getting a minority vote. Pokhrel is considered Oli’s right hand man. He is in the minority in the state assembly. But instead of resigning, the opposition coalition has been outraged by the exercise of prolonging its life by deception and conspiracy.
The eighth session of the Lumbini Provincial Assembly ended at midnight after the government failed to pass the budget from the provincial assembly. Opposition leaders called the move “politically dishonest.”
Opposition parties have stated that it is politically dishonest for the ruling party to end the current session at midnight.
Chief Whip of the Nepali Congress, Fakhruddin Khan, said that it was the defeatist mentality of the government for Chief Minister Shankar Pokharel to end the convention at midnight by neglecting the budget already in the state assembly.
“This reaffirms that the government is in the minority and has lost its position to face parliament,” said Chief Whip Khan.
Khan said the opposition alliance had taken seriously the issue of the state chief ending the convention at midnight as per the decision of the minority government, which questioned the legitimacy, and would take further steps after reviewing the role of the state chief.
Similarly, Tularam Gharti (Basanta), whip of the Maoist center in Lumbini province, termed the move of the state government as political dishonesty. During the party discussion on Thursday, UML leader and Finance Minister Baijnath Chaudhary said that it was unthinkable to end the convention and bring the budget from the ordinance, but Gharti said that the convention ended at midnight.
