Kathmandu : 3 million rupees has been illegally released for the treatment of CPN-UML leader Jhala Nath Khanal. Khanal, who went to India after seeing kidney problems, is undergoing treatment at the Apollo Hospital, New Delhi.
According to khan’s Aide, his kidney will be transplanted. The cabinet, led by outgoing Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, had decided to bear the entire cost of Khanal’s treatment. According to a senior source in the Ministry of Finance, to the Nepalese Embassy in Delhi had sent an account of Rs 3 million for Khanal’s treatment through the Ministry of External Affairs. This amount has been disbursed while UML Deputy General Secretary Bishnu Poudel was the Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister.
The decision of the outgoing Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli government to bear the cost of Khanal’s treatment abroad was illegal. Article 30 of the Public Health Act, which came into force on 2 Asoj 2075, states that “the Government of Nepal will not provide any expenses for the treatment of a person who has to undergo treatment abroad, regardless of the provisions of the prevailing law.”
Despite reversing some decisions of the previous government, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has upheld the illegal decision regarding Khanal’s medical expenses. One of the leaders said that it was a misuse of state funds to treat the leaders who could afford the treatment at their own expense. Khanal himself can raise so much money, but it is not good for the state to spend for his treatment.
The government also promised to help. Deuba, who had reached Khumaltar to meet CPN-Maoist Central Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda’s wife Sita Dahal, also had a telephone conversation with former Prime Minister Khanal. In the process, he has promised Khanal to come for treatment and the government will help him.
