Kathmandu, May 8 : The Supreme Court has ordered to show cause behind the expansion of the cabinet by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli after the dissolution of the House of Representatives.

A bench of Justice Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada passed the order while hearing the first writ petition against the cabinet reshuffle on Tuesday.

The writ petitioners had filed a writ petition seeking an interim order to revoke the cabinet expansion. Before the Supreme Court decides whether to issue an interim order, the debate of both the writ petitioner and the respondent will be heard. The Supreme Court has stated that both the parties have been called for this on June 22.
Senior Advocate Dinesh Tripathi, Advocate Raj Kumar Suwal and others had filed a writ petition against the cabinet expansion.
In the writ petition of senior advocate Tripathi, it was alleged that the current government under Article 76, Sub-section 3, has not been able to do important work including expansion of the Council of Ministers like the regular government.
The writ states that the expansion of the Council of Ministers, which allows the caretaker government to do only the most urgent work, is not the most urgent work.

Last Friday, Prime Minister Oli reorganized the cabinet with the participation of Janata Samajwadi Party’s Mahanta Thakur and Rajendra Mahato faction in the government.
In addition, Prime Minister Oli had removed some UML ministers and appointed some new ministers to the post of Deputy Prime Minister as well.
