Kathmandu June 9. The Supreme Court has demanded a Show cause from the government to dissolve the House of Representatives.

In a writ petition filed by 146 MPs of the House of Representatives seeking appointment of Sher Bahadur Deuba as the Prime Minister under Article 76 (5) and annulment of the House of Representatives, Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Jabra, Justices Deepak Kumar Karki, Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada and Dr. Ananda Mohan Bhattarai’s bench refused to issue a stay order.

The Supreme Court has only demanded a written reply from the President’s Office, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and other opposition parties regarding the dissolution of the House of Representatives.

Senior advocates Mahadev Prasad Yadav and Shambhu Thapa, who argued on behalf of the petitioner on Wednesday, had sought an interim order reversing the President’s move not to appoint Deuba as he had submitted the signatures of 149 lawmakers for the appointment of the Prime Minister under Section 76 (5).

The case will be heard continuously from July 26 after the opposition submits a written reply.
