Kathmandu May 22 : After a dispute over whether to support KP Sharma Oli as the prime minister or Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba, the chairpersons of the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) have asked each other for clarification.
On the same day that Chairman Mahanta Thakur sent a letter to another Chairman Upendra Yadav to give an explanation within three days, another Chairman Yadav also asked Thakur and his party leaders Rajendra Mahato, Laxman Lal Karna and Sarvendranath Shukla for clarification.
Chairman Thakur’s party has to support KP Sharma Oli, who is also the chairman of the CPN-UML. However, another Yadav faction is in favor of Oli’s replacement.
Accordingly, they are increasing their activities in their own way. Chairman Thakur’s party has made leader Mahato the leader of the parliamentary party. Another chairman, Yadav, said that he was not aware of this.
Chairman Thakur has asked Yadav to explain within three days why he was signing in favor of Deuba.
Yadav also asked Thakur to explain why he supported the undemocratic, unconstitutional and regressive move of dissolving the House of Representatives of Prime Minister Oli against the party’s decision and policy.
Yadav also asked Thakur why he had sent letters to the President’s Office, Election Commission and Parliament Secretariat without the party’s decision.
Similarly, Yadav has asked Thakur to explain why and on what basis Rajendra Mahato was declared the leader of the parliamentary party and sent a letter to the parliament when the constitution of the parliamentary party was not drafted as per Article 28 of the party constitution.
Central Office Chief Prakash Adhikari has written a letter to Thakur on behalf of Chairman Yadav asking him to give an explanation. It has been asked to give an explanation within three days.
Similarly, Chairman Yadav has asked Rajendra Mahato to give an answer to the six-point explanation including the question on what basis he became the leader of the parliamentary party within three days.
Yadav has also asked Sarvendranath Shukla and Laxman Lal Karna to give explanations. He is a member of the JSP Central Executive Committee. Yadav has sought clarification to answer five questions, including why the party acted as a task force to negotiate with the government without an official decision.
Chairman Thakur’s party had abstained from voting in favor of Prime Minister Oli on April, while another lawmaker from Yadav’s party had voted against Oli.
After that, the leaders are divided on who to support, Oli or Deuba. Due to this dispute, the meeting of the Central Executive Committee could not be held.
Though Chairman Yadav’s party participated in the Central Executive Meeting on May 22 and 23, another Chairman Thakur’s party did not participate. Instead, Thakur had postponed the meeting on May 22 citing the Coronavirus epidemic.
Also, 12 people from Yadav’s party had signed the petition to make Deuba the prime minister last Friday.
