Skills generating programmes unveiled for conflict-hit people

Galkot, Dec 7

The Gandaki Province Government has implemented skills generating programme targeting the conflict-hit people in five districts of the province. The relief and rehabilitation programme was started in Baglung, Gorkha, Tanahun, Kaski and Lamjung districts by targeting the families of martyrs, physically-challenged, enforced disappearance and the individuals affected from the decade-long insurgency, according to the Internal Affairs and Law Ministry of the Province.

Under the programme, the beneficiaries would be provided with training and seed money for vegetable production and goat farming in Baglung. For the effective intervention of this scheme, the Ministry’s officials on Sunday interacted with the representatives of government agencies, political parties and community-based organizations in Baglung. Ministry’s Under Secretary Kashiraj Gaire shared that 30 beneficiaries would be given Rs 30,000 each for vegetable production and 30 others would get Rs 15,000 each for goat farming in seed money. During the programme, Internal Affairs Minister of Gandaki Province Hari Bahadur Chuman said that the state was making efforts to support the individuals and families affected from the People’s War and different other movements. Chuman vowed to increase the amount of the seed money and run it in a more systematic way in the coming days.

However, stakeholders and participants at the interaction programme urged the Province Government to simplify the process stating that the amount for seed money was small but the process was much complicated though the intervention through skills generation was a positive gesture. —
