Human rights magna meet to be observed nationwide

The Human Rights Magna Meet 2020 is being held across the country with the international theme of “Recover Better Stand for Human Rights’ and “Human Rights in Pandemic: Excess Expansion of All in Health Care Services” on the occasion of the 72nd International Human Rights Day. The magna meet activities would be organised in all seven provinces and 77 districts by considering the public health issues as a key concern of human rights.

At a news conference on Tuesday, coordinator of Human Rights National Magna Meet 2020 Govinda Bahadur Shahi said that virtual events would be conducted this year due to coronavirus infection. Minister for Communications and Information and Spokesperson of the Government, Parbat Gurung, is scheduled to inaugurate the magna meet which is to begin on Wednesday. Human rights activists and organizations active in the country would partake in the activities, it is said.

In Nepal, the activists and organizations had started to mark the human rights magna meet since 2009 to observe the International Human Rights Day in a grand manner on December 10. Karnali Integrated Rural Development and Research Centre (KIRDARC) would coordinate the 12th Human Rights National Magna Meet while Nepal National Dalit Social Welfare Organization and Humanitarian Accountability Monitoring Initiative (HAMI) are the co-conveners of the magna meet.

This magna meet would highlight and further strengthen the human rights situation in the country, make the stakeholders accountable to the implementation on human rights commitment and ensure solidarity to this end, it is said.
