NHRC seeks prevention of COVID-19 spread

Kathmandu, Aug 16

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged the federal government and all local levels to be sensitive for the prevention and control of COVID-19 virus from spreading in the community, so that the citizens’ right to live in a peaceful atmosphere would be ensured.

In a press statement today, it has called on the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Ministry of Health and Population and the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration to share all necessary information in regard with COVID-19 and test results to people’s representatives of all local levels on time. The NHRC has sent a letter to the government in this regard.

“We have complaints from some local levels that they were not getting information about the COVID-19 infected people at their localities , their number in a particular area and other related information and measures to be taken for the protection of family and community from the District Public Health Office and the Health Ministry’’ the statement reads.

The human rights watch body further stated that it would be helpful for local levels to take further preventive measures if the Health Ministry Spokesperson gave clear details of the infected areas in big cities like Kathmandu.
