Four settlements displaced due to flood at Budhiganga

Kathmandu July 20:

Most of the settlements in Bajura district are at high risk of landslide and flooding due to the incessant rainfall since the past few days. Many roads and trails are also washed away at multiple places. Movement of vehicles and people has been hampered due to this. Settlements in ward number 1 and 2 of Budhiganga Municipality have been displaced due to landslide. Kudi and Amkot settlements in ward no.

1 and Bajedi, Nadang, Mustola and Taprisera settlements in ward no 2 of the municipality have been displaced. The torrential rain on Sunday caused flooding of the Ghattekhola which has eroded the cultivated fields at Tanprisera, Musi and Kharra, the municipality’s ward 2 chair Hiralal Thapa said. He added that six families have been displaced at Bajedi as their houses were damaged by landslide triggered by torrential rain last night.

The entire settlement is at risk due to the landslide. Locals have to stay awake the whole night when it starts raining due to the precarious situation, said Game Luhar, a resident of the settlement.

Ten more families have evacuated to the local Shiva Shankar Primary School after their houses developed cracks. Flood has entered the market area in Tanprisera causing damage to property worth hundreds of thousands. The food has also washed away paddy fields. It has also washed away a concrete bridge halting vehicular movement.
