Capital spending drops this year than before

Chitwan, July 17

The capital spending of the budget earmarked by the federal and state governments for the district development has been found ineffective.

Of the budget appropriated for the development works in the district, the federal government could only spend 58.47 percent development budget while the capital expenditure made by state government was limited to 51.91 percent in the fiscal 2019/20, informed Treasury Single Account Office Chitwan.

In the previous fiscal year 2018/19, the federal government had spent 71.22 percent and the state government 64.20 percent of the budget appropriated for the development works of the district. According to TSA office controller and information officer Sharad Bhattarai, Rs 3.68 billion out of the budget allocated by the federal government was spent last year.

Likewise, the state government had appropriated over Rs 2.28 billion for the development of the district. Of the budget allocated, over Rs 1.2 billion was expended.

It is only 52 percent of the allocated budget. It is noted that the volume of public spending was dropped due to the multiple effects of coronavirus pandemic.
