Kathmandu Jan 29 : A meeting of top leaders of the five ruling parties, members of the mechanism and legal experts has held in PM residence Baluwatar.
This is the second meeting of the ruling coalition on Saturday to take a concrete decision on the date of local elections.
Earlier, the meeting held on Saturday afternoon failed to reach a consensus and now the leaders are engaged in discussions by calling law and constitutional experts.
In the previous meeting, the coalition had concluded that it should move ahead only by amending the constitution and local level election act 2073, even if it is ready to go to the polls at any time.
In a meeting held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar on Saturday morning, it was decided to hold discussions with legal experts to amend the laws that are in conflict with the constitution before announcing the date of local elections.
The meeting also discussed the pressure exerted by President Vidyadevi Bhandari on Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to fix the date of local elections as soon as possible.
In the meeting, the letter written by the President to the Prime minister without addressing anyone was distributed to all and allowed to study.
The meeting concluded that the letter given by the President to the Prime Minister was unconstitutional and sought to exert more pressure than political and diplomatic.
