Kathmandu: CPN (UML) leader Bhim Rawal has said that a strong voice should be raised against the MCC. UML leader Rawal pointed out the danger of forming a parallel government in the country if the MCC is passed by the parliament and argued that everyone should raise their voice to stop it.
Speaking at an interaction program on “The Reality of American Democracy and the MCC” in Kathmandu on Saturday, Rawal, who is also a former deputy prime minister, warned that if the MCC agreement was passed by parliament without amendment, it would turn the country into a conflict of power. Leader Rawal also reiterated that no patriotic Nepali can accept the agreement.
He said that he also agreed to move ahead by amending the MCC agreement. He said that he was surprised to see that some Nepali leaders should move ahead without amending the agreement.
Leader Rawal said that any agreement that would jeopardize the country’s sovereignty would not be acceptable to Nepal. Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN (Maoist) leader Dharmendra Bastola warned that the country would fall into a serious vicious circle if the MCC was passed.
He also demanded that the letter sent by the Government of Nepal to the US Government on the MCC agreement be made public.
Former Ambassador Lilamani Poudel clarified that the MCC could not be taken forward as it was not in the national interest. He also pointed out the danger of the country becoming a prisoner of other countries if it accepts the conditions imposed by other countries, such as the dangerous conditions related to security in the MCC. Former Ambassador Poudel also said that Nepal is ready to move forward as MCC if the agreements that are against Nepal’s interest are removed.
