Kathmandu : The government has rejected the recommendation of the previous government led by KP Sharma Oli to appoint ambassadors to 11 countries.
A cabinet meeting on Friday rejected the previous government’s recommendation to appoint the ambassadors, a minister said. According to the minister, the ambassador was appointed by circumventing the parliamentary process.
“All the decisions made by the council of ministers have been overturned by circumventing the parliamentary process,” the minister said.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had already written to the countries concerned for the appointment of ambassadors.
In the wake of the dissolution of the House of Representatives, the Oli-led government had recommended the appointment of ambassadors to various countries on May 20.
The Oli government had appointed Nirmal Raj Kafle as ambassador to Austria, Ramesh Chandra Poudel as ambassador to Sri Lanka, Jeevan Prakash Shrestha as ambassador to Egypt and Krishnachandra Sharma as ambassador to South Korea.
Similarly, Jung Bahadur Chuhan was appointed as ambassador to Russia, Sumnima Tuladhar to Australia, Narayan Prasad Sangraula to Myanmar, Kul Prasad Nepal to Brazil, Sumitra Subedi to Denmark, Meraj Musalman to Saudi Arabia and Yuvraj Karki to Bahrain. The apex court had rejected Karki’s appointment saying he was not qualified.
The previous government led by Oli had amended the provision that a person should have completed at least a bachelor’s degree to be appointed as an ambassador. But the Supreme Court rejected it.
