UML dispute in strange mode, zero progress !

Kathmandu: The UML dispute has taken a new and strange turn in the last five months. The UML is stirring up controversy by calling for action against the leaders, explanation and closing the chapter of unity.
The task force formed some time ago sometimes dies and sometimes rises. According to the task force members, efforts to seek consensus on the issues on which there was disagreement have resumed from Monday.

According to one of the members, it has been almost agreed that the committees of all the parties and people’s organizations will be restored to their previous status and remain active. But, what is the process of accommodate leaders from the former Maoists to the committee? There is still a long way to go.

Besides, it is yet to be agreed whether the UML Central Committee will have 203 or 241 members. The members of the task force said that they are yet to agree on the proposal to add senior leaders who were released from Madhav’s side at the age of 241.

Apart from this, no agreement has been reached to withdraw the signatures of the outgoing UML lawmakers used in the writ petition filed in the Supreme Court to restore the House of Representatives and make Sher Bahadur Deuba the Prime Minister.

The founding party of the CPN-UML had directed to withdraw such signatures by 5 pm on Monday. Signatures have been used in the writ petition of 23 sitting UML MPs. That decision has also fallen on deaf ears again.

A leader said that the task force was revived after Oli was ready to formalize the informal talks so far and further dialogue was started.

Lately, party president KP Oli has instructed the members close to him to resume discussions with the Madhav faction.
Oli has shown flexibility by anticipating a court ruling against him. However, the Madhav faction has also adopted a policy of engaging in dialogue till the court order comes. Madhav’s group wants to form a new party by making legal arrangements to make him a party after Deuba becomes the prime minister. Oli also understands this plan. But one leader said Oli had a policy of not trying until the end.

Vishnu Poudel, Shankar Pokhrel, Pradip Gyawali and Bishnu Rimal are in the task force to settle the UML dispute under the coordination of Subash Nemwang on behalf of Oli. On behalf of Khanal-Nepal, Ghanshyam Bhusal, Gokarna Bista, Surendra Pandey and Raghuji Pant are the members under Rawal’s coordination.
According to the leaders of both the sides, no matter how hard they try, UML unity is impossible.
