Three Women in both the posts of Chief and Deputy Chief of the Municipality

 

Kathmandu 23 May : Men have reached both the posts of chief and deputy chief of more than 150 municipalities in the country. However, there are only three women in both the posts. After the results of 716 local levels, women have reached both the posts in Kailali, Dailakh and Jhapa.

Shusila Shahi of Nepali Congress has been elected as the Mayor of Lamkichuha Municipality of Kailali. Shahi was elected with 12,713 votes while her nearest rival Mahadev Bajgain of the CPN-UML got only 10,435 votes. Along with her, Juna Chaudhary from CPN-UML also won with 11,708 votes.

Similarly, women have been elected to both the posts of chief and deputy chief in Bhairavi village municipality of Dailakh. Bhairavi village chairperson Rita Kumari Shahi defeated CPN-UML’s Sarvaraj Mahat by 16 votes.

While Mahat got 3,960 votes, Shahi got 16 more votes. Similarly, Devi Bhandari of Nepali Congress has also won in Bhairavi’s Deputy Chief. She defeated CPN-UML’s Padam Kumari Bista by more than 100 votes. In Bhairavi village, the Nepali Congress had appointed women to both the posts of chief and deputy chief. Congress has won both the posts.

In Gaurigunj of Jhapa, women have been elected as both the chairperson and vice-chairperson. Phulwati Rajbanshi of Nepali Congress and Pujan Neupane (Kunwar) of CPN-UML won the post of Gauriganj president and vice president respectively.
