Kathmandu, Jan 9 : Out of the 63 district committee conventions of the CPN (UML) that were inaugurated on Friday, chairpersons have been elected in 26 districts till 1 pm on Sunday.

While 26 district chairpersons have been elected district chairpersons among 26 chairs two have been elected by ballot and 24 have been unanimously elected.

In Kapilvastu and West Nawalparasi, the chairperson has been elected through election competition. Even in places where the chairperson is unanimous, voting is taking place for most of the other posts. Despite the UML’s ban on contesting elections by forming a panel, panel-based competition is taking place in some districts.

Though Ramechhap, Jumla and Bhojpur are close to an agreement, a formal announcement is yet to be made. According to the leaders, the names of Ananda Shrestha in Ramechhap, Sharan Rai in Bhojpur and Shant Mahat in Jumla have almost been agreed upon.
