Kathmandu Jan 7 : The ruling coalition has concluded that the opposition should be as responsible for running the federal parliament as the ruling party. A meeting of the high-level political coordination committee affiliated to the coalition held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar on Friday concluded this and reminded the main opposition about its role and duties in smoothing the parliament.
A meeting of the top leaders convened by the committee coordinator Ram Chandra Poudel in the presence of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba decided to continue the initiative to avoid hurdles of the parliament.
The meeting was attended by CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal and leaders of Congress, Maoists, Unified Socialists, Janata Samajwadi Party and Rastriya Janamorcha.
After the meeting, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki said that the meeting had decided to continue the initiative for running the long stalled parliament. He said that the role and duty of the opposition would be the same as that of the government in running the parliament.
“Parliament has been obstructed for a long time by main opposition UML. It is not appropriate to block the parliament in any way. We have discussed in the meeting how to make the parliament run smoothly,” he said.
