Parliament meeting adjourned for a week

Kathmandu, December 14 : Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota has adjourned the meeting of the House of Representatives for a week.

After the first sitting of the parliament session was held on Tuesday, the next sitting has been adjourned till 1 pm on Tuesday.

The first meeting of 10th session of the House of Representatives (Ho) has commenced. During the meeting, Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota read out the letter sent by President Bidya Devi Bhandari regarding the announcement of the session and welcomed the HoR members.

Soon after the commencement of the meeting, the main opposition party, CPN (UML) surrounded the well, demanding to maintain parliamentary discipline. The CPN (UML) that has been expressing its dissatisfaction with Speaker Sapkota for not removing its lawmakers who had faced party’s action. The UML said it would continue protest in the 10th session of the federal parliament that began today.

In Tuesday’s meeting, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Dilendra Prasad Badu will present the Nepal Police and province Police (Operation, Supervision and Coordination) (First Amendment) Ordinance 2078 BS on behalf of the government. He has introduced the Acid and Other Harmful Chemicals (Regulation) Ordinance 2078 and the Social Security (First Amendment) Ordinance 2078.

The main opposition party CPN-UML has also blocked the parliament sitting in this session of the parliament. The UML, which had blocked the parliament in the previous session in protest of the speaker’s refusal to recognize the action of the lawmaker, has also blocked the first sitting of the session which started on Tuesday.

Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota chaired the sitting amidst chanting of UML lawmakers.
