We won’t allow the parliament to function as per the status quo: Oli

Kathmandu: The main opposition party UML has decided to block the parliament. A meeting of the parliamentary parties held at the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwor on Wednesday morning decided to block the parliament.

UML chairperson and parliamentary party leader KP Sharma Oli has said that the UML is blocking the house saying that the speaker is involved in the conspiracy to split the party. “Our party is not in a position to reach there as the speaker will preside over it,” he said. Parliament cannot function without the presence of non-MPs. If so, we will bring in former MPs, ‘Oli said.

Oli said that MPs including Madhav Nepal, Ram Bahadur Thapa, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Prabhu Shah, Lekhraj Bhatt and Gauri Shankar Chaudhary should be allowed to attend the meeting.

Chairman Oli also accused Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota of not playing a fair role. ‘If he is trying to finish UML, how can the Speaker be impartial? The speaker appeared to be in favor of the alliance and was seen conspiring against the UML. Therefore, it is not possible to accept the speaker as he is, ‘said Oli.

Stating that the speaker was against the rules of the parliament and against the parliamentary values, Oli said, “Why doesn’t the speaker take away the logo of the action we have taken?” As long as they are non-parliamentarians, the parliament will not function. He said that the UML would be weakened if he watched the spectacle now.
