UML’s legislative amendment, direct election of chairperson and GS, unity derailed

Kathmandu : CPN-UML’s standing committee meeting has passed the party’s legislative amendment proposal.
UML Vice-Chairman Bamdev Gautam informed that the meeting held at Tulsilal Memorial Foundation Lalitpur on Monday passed the legislative amendment proposal.
The party had formed a task force under the coordination of Deputy General Secretary and Chief of the Organization Department Bishnu Prasad Poudel.
Office Secretary Sher Bahadur Tamang said that the passed proposal would be submitted to the Central Committee.

According to him, the proposal of the amended new constitution has removed the politburo and alternate central members and made arrangements for the office bearers, standing committee and central members.
Office Secretary Tamang informed that a new arrangement has been proposed in the amended constitution for the central members elected by the general convention other than the chairperson and general secretary.
It is also proposed to increase the number of Central Committee members. He informed that the provision of having 225 members in the Central Committee has been made in the amended constitution. It is mentioned in the passed legislation that the number of vice-chairmen in the party will be reduced and the number of secretaries will be increased.

The Central Committee will approve the legislative amendment proposal passed by the Standing Committee.
Office secretary Tamang informed that the Province committee will be made executive in the constitution. He said that it will be implemented after the sitting central committee passes the constitution.

Unity derailed
Ignoring the demand of the disgruntled Madhav Nepal faction to stop the meeting, the Oli faction has moved ahead with the party. Today’s decision has further eroded the unity between the two factions of the party. None of the leaders of Madhav Nepal’s party participated in the meeting of Oli’s party. The Central Committee meeting of the Madhav Nepal Group held three days ago had decided to unite respectfully. But Chairman Oli has made it clear that nothing can be accepted from Madhav’s side.
