UML demands government to formally protest to India over Darchula incident

Kathmandu: The main opposition Party UML has demanded the government to formally protest with India over the Darchula incident. UML has demanded in the parliament on Tuesday to formally protest against the disappearance of Jaisingh Dhami in the river while the Indian Border Security Force (IBSF) was ‘cutting’ the river.

UML MP Ganesh Singh Thagunna, representing Darchula, said in a meeting of the House of Representatives that a parliamentary inquiry committee should be formed to probe the incident.

MP Thagunna has demanded to include Darchula Khalanga-Tinkar-Kalapani road in the National Pride Project. He also demanded that the responsibility of digging the road be given to the Nepal Army and local youths. He said that if the road was built, he would not have to use the Indian route to reach his district headquarters and cross the Tuin.

MP Thagunna has accused the local administration of trying to settle the Darchula incident. He also accused the local administration and the home ministry of not taking the incident seriously.

Giving information that eyewitnesses have already lodged a complaint against SSB at the Indian police station, MP Thagunna said, “Nepal’s administration is issuing a statement not to spread confusion.” His demand was.”I demand that the government immediately lodge a formal protest with the Indian government, that the guilty SSB be prosecuted for murder and that the families of the deceased be compensated.”

MP Thagunna said that such incidents were continuing. His demand was to build infrastructure including roads. “This is just a representative incident. Many such incidents continue to occur in that area. We cannot escape by blaming India alone. We must also take moral responsibility for it. ‘

MP Thagunna said that he expected Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, representing Dadeldhura, to understand Darchula’s pain. ‘Kathmandu is very far from Kalapani, so it may not be painful.
