One died, three missing in Karnali boat accident

Surkhet : One person has died and three others have gone missing in a boat accident on the Karnali River.

The body of Dhansari Salami, 22, of Mohanyal Gaonpalika-3 of Kailali has been found, said Rajendra Bahadur Kumal, in-charge of Area Police Office, Sungarkhal, Kailali.

“The search for the missing is on. We have found the body of a woman 300 meters below the spot,” said Kumal.

Three persons, including a pregnant woman, have gone missing after their boat capsized in the Karnali River between Mohanyal Municipality of Kailali and Chowkune Municipality of Surkhet at around 10 am on Sunday. Police said that they met with an accident while going to Surkhet from Kailali to get vaccinated.

Spokesperson of the Karnali province Police Office, SP Madhav Shrestha, said that five persons were rescued after the boat carrying 10 passengers capsized. One person has been injured in the accident.

According to SP Shrestha, a police team deployed from Babiyachaur in Surkhet and Sungarkhal in Kailali has started search and rescue operation.
