Government set up mechanism to study Nepalis working in the informal sector in Afghanistan

Kathmandu. The government has said that there are no statistics on the number of Nepalis working in the informal sector in Afghanistan. Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bharat Poudel said that the concerned organization has been requested to take about 1,500 Nepalis working in the formal sector to a safe place along with other employees.

At a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on International Relations on Sunday, Foreign Secretary Poudel said that preparations were being made to issue notices to Nepalis working in the informal sector.

A meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary on Sunday morning has formed a mechanism led by Joint Secretary for Foreign Affairs Harish Chandra Ghimire, which will include representatives of CCMC as well as necessary ministries including Home and Tourism. The mechanism will also study the situation of Nepalis in the informal sector, said Foreign Secretary Poudel.

He said that talks are being held with the diplomatic missions in Nepal for the rescue of Nepalis working in the formal sector.
