Agitating teacher arrested from Baluwatar

Kathmandu : Teachers have been arrested in front of the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar. Laxmi Kishor Subedi, general secretary of the Nepal Teachers Federation, said that the police arrested her while she was going to participate in a sit-in at the Prime Minister’s residence on Friday.
They were scheduled to hold a sit-in at the PM’s residence in Baluwatar from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

According to Subedi, the agitating teachers were arrested from different places and kept at the Kamalpokhari Police Office. He said, ‘Right now we have 100 teachers here under the control of the police.

The state should invest 20 percent of the total budget for quality education, promulgate the National Education Act, change the constitutional arrangement, implement the 30-point agreement reached between the Nepal Teachers Federation and the government. The Federation of Nepali Teachers (FNT) has been staging a phased agitation since last April demanding a 14-point increase in the salaries of teachers and school staff.
