Kathmandu : Top leaders of the Nepali Congress have agreed to formulate new criteria to end the disputed active membership. During a four-hour discussion at the residence of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba in Budhanilkantha on Friday, the top leaders agreed to formulate new criteria for resolving the contentious issues.

President Deuba, senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel, Krishna Prasad Sitaula, joint general minister Prakash Sharan Mahat, leader Minendra Rijal and Ramesh Lekhak were present at the discussion.

Joint General Minister Mahat said, “There is talk that the dispute that could not be resolved in the active membership scrutiny committee should be resolved in a legal manner by discussing it.”

He says new criteria will be set for that. Similarly, senior leader Poudel also said that the dispute would be resolved after setting the criteria.

New criteria will be formulated regarding the active membership from Saptari and Bara submitted to the leadership level without entering the investigation committee.
Similarly, the ongoing hunger strike and sit-in in Dhanusha No. 4 and Sarlahi No. 2 will be addressed, said Mahat.

Poudel said that the active membership which was stopped due to the dispute related to integration will also be resolved in a lawful manner.

After a two-hour discussion, Deuba said that a solution should be found so that those who want to be a member of the Nepali Congress and those who want to be a member of the Nepali Congress should not be deprived of active members. Deuba had asked the leaders participating in the discussion to find a way out accordingly.
