The festival of sacrifice is being celebrated-Baka Eid

Kathmandu : Eid-ul-Adha 2021 will be celebrated on July 21 across Nepal.  Eid-ul-Adha is the second major Islamic festival after Eid-al-Fitr (or Meethi Eid) celebrated by Muslims. The festival is also known as Bakra Eid, Bakrid, Eid al-Adha, Eid Qurban or Qurban Bayarami. While Meethi Eid marks the end of the Holy month of Ramzan, Bakri Eid concludes the annual Hajj pilgrimage made by Islamic devotees.Eid-ul-Fitr, the 70th day of Ramadan, has been celebrated as a religious festival.
According to the Islamic calendar, the festival is celebrated on the 12th day of the 12th month of Dil Hijja, said Mansur Hussain, secretary of the Nepali Jame Masjid.
On this day, Muslims bathe in the morning and go to a nearby mosque or idgah to offer collective prayers. After the prayers, good wishes are exchanged by hugging each other.
On this occasion, crowds of Muslims flock to mosques and idgahs across the country, including the Nepali Jame Mosque and Kashmiri Mosque at Durbar Marg.
According to Nirdosh Ali, former chairman of the National Muslim Commission, the festival commemorates the sacrifice of his son Ishmael (peace be upon him) by the command of Allah 1439 years ago.
“Allah’s command was to sacrifice the dearest thing to Ibrahim (Abraham). According to this, when Ishmael (peace be upon him) was ready to sacrifice Salam, Allah Himself came and passed the test. He commanded him to sacrifice this sheep. Explaining the historical background of the festival, he said.
