Settlements submerged: 7 killed, 3 missing in floods, obstructions on highways

Kathmandu : Seven people were killed in floods, landslides and lightning in Chitwan, Sindhuli and Tanahu districts on Thursday. Three are missing. Eight persons have been injured in Tanahu and Gorkha districts. Dozens of families have been displaced in Gorkha, Lamjung, East Nawalparasi and other districts. The Narayangarh-Muglin road has been blocked again due to the landslide.

Two people have been killed and three others are missing in a landslide in Chitwan district on Thursday. Similarly, a woman has died due to lightning. East Chitwan has been most affected by the rains. A landslide has destroyed two houses and a kawasoti in Lothar, a hilly village of Rapti Municipality-12 on Thursday. According to District Police Spokesperson DSP Surya Thapa, four persons went missing after two houses were flooded in Lothar. DSP Thapa said that the body of one of the men was found 50 meters below the spot but no other details were available.

Landslides have fallen at various places on the Narayangarh-Muglin highway. The one-way road that was blocked by a landslide at Ichchakamana Gaonpalika-6 on Wednesday night was opened only at noon. Another landslide fell at Kerabari of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-29 at 3.30 pm and a large rock fell at 14 kg of Bharatpur-29 at around 7.30 pm. The road has been operating one-way since evening.

Similarly, the body of Sant Bahadur Magar of Kamalamai Municipality-4, who went missing on Wednesday night after being swept away by the Labdah River in Sindhuli, was found on the bank of Kamala River near Sisneri in Ward 8 on Thursday.

Similarly, two people were killed in a landslide in Bandipur of Tanahu district on Thursday. Saraswati Thapa, 30, and Harimaya Sarkini, 72, were killed when a landslide buried their house in Tamipur, Bandipur-3.

More than a dozen families have been displaced due to floods and landslides in Gorkha. 5 houses have been washed away by floods and landslides. The worst affected is Palungtar municipality.

The floods have inundated 45 houses in Gaindakot Municipality-4 of East Nawalparasi. According to Ward Chairman Krishna Neupane, the houses north of Namuna School and West Congress Chowk were inundated. The settlement has been inundated due to the inundation of flood water due to Mahendra Highway. This toll is drowned every year when the floods from the north of Mahendra Highway do not find a way out.
