SC restores House of Representatives, orders to make Deuba Prime Minister

Kathmandu: The decision of the President to dissolve the House of Representatives on the recommendation of the government has been overturned by the Supreme Court. The five-member Constitutional Court issued the order on Monday afternoon. With this order of the Supreme Court, the House of Representatives has been restored.

A bench of Justices Deepak Kumar Karki, Mira Khadka, Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada and Ananda Mohan Bhattarai, including Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher JBR, has also issued an order to make Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba the Prime Minister.

“It simply came to our notice then. We have issued the order as per the demand, ”said Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher JBR while delivering the order. The court issued a summary order in the case on Monday.

Judge Ishwor Khatiwada said that the full text of the verdict has been prepared. “It simply came to our notice then. The Chief Justice had entrusted me to write the verdict, ”he said.

A writ petition was filed in the Supreme Court along with Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and 146 other lawmakers demanding the restoration of the House of Representatives. They had gone to the court with a joint demand to make Deuba the prime minister. The court had set a time limit of one week for the hearing of the case.
