Kathmandu : According to the decision of the Supreme Court, Sher Bahadur Deuba, who was appointed as the Prime Minister 29 times last June, has received a vote of confidence from the Parliament. Deuba was voted in favor of Nepali Congress, CPN-Maoist Center, both groups of Jaspa, Rajmo and Madhav Nepal of CPN-UML.
CPN-UML and RPP MPs had voted against Deuba. When the confidence motion was tabled, 165 votes were cast in favor of Deuba and 83 against. There was one vote in favor of no voting. UML’s Madhav Nepal faction had 21 MPs abstaining.
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba proposed a vote of confidence in the meeting, but Oli, who was also the leader of the main opposition party, was absent from the meeting.
Half of the CPN-UML’s Madhav MPs were in favor of Deuba and half were neutral. Bhim Rawal, the party’s vice-president, had resigned from the post due to confusion over what to do. Neutrals argue that the party is still trying to maintain unity. Ghanshyam Bhusal, one of the leaders who remained neutral, said that now the parliament has been saved, the constitution has been saved, now the party must be saved.
Madhav Nepal, Virodh Khatiwada, Ram Kumari Jhankri, Metmani Chaudhary and Niradevi Jairu of Madhav’s party had voted in favor of the no-confidence motion. A meeting of the standing committee of the pro-Oli UML held only today had warned that Deuba would not be able to stay in the party.
Four lawmakers in favor of KP Oli have crossed the floor while giving a vote of confidence to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Prem Ale Doti, Dhan Bahadur Budha Dolpa, Kisan Shrestha and Tanahu Gopal Bam Bajura are from Oli faction.
Due to party president KP Sharma Oli, UML has become an extremely chaotic and undisciplined party.
