Kathmandu : Outgoing Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has been absent in the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.
The Supreme Court on Monday restored the dissolved the House of Representatives and ordered Deuba to be appointed prime minister. Oli, outraged by the court’s order, failed to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new prime minister.
Generally, it is the practice of the outgoing Prime Minister to attend the swearing in of the newly appointed Prime Minister. Though UML senior leader and former prime minister Madhav Nepal participated in the swearing-in ceremony and enthusiastically congratulated Deuba.
The President did not congratulate the newly appointed Prime Minister and introduced him to VVIP 5.
Even when Deuba was sworn in, there was a controversy after the President’s Office said that he was appointed as per the decision of the Supreme Court and not in accordance with Article 76 (5) of the Constitution. The language of the appointment was corrected by the President’s Office after Deuba took a stand not to take oath if he did not mention the article of the constitution.
Thus, the distance between the newly appointed Prime Minister and the President has widened from day one.
