Monetary policy is not to be stopped by Ministry : FM Sharma

Kathmandu : Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has clarified that the ministry has not stopped Nepal Rastra Bank to bringing monetary policy for this fiscal year.

During a meeting with officials and working committee members of the Economic Journalists Association of Nepal (NAFEJ), Minister Sharma said that such directive was not issued as Nepal Rastra Bank is an autonomous body.

He informed that the NRB governor was only asked to bring monetary policy without any negative impact on the economic activities of the country, the expectations of the people and the pre-determined programs of the beneficiaries.

Asked about the white paper to be brought by the ministry, Minister Sharma said that he was not trying to mislead anyone but was trying to inform the people about the real picture of the economy when he took the responsibility.

‘It’s not a matter of playing a movie, to show that the hero has won by beating the villain, I’m not in such a campaign,’ he said, ‘that’s what I’ve seen. Minister Sharma also said that he is thinking of starting work to transform the consumerist economy into a productive economy.

“I don’t have much time to work. There is not much that can be done. But I am thinking of giving a different direction to the economy by mixing the suggestions of subject matter experts and all of you and the voice of the people, I will do that, ‘said Minister Sharma.
