JSP leaders told the commission: “We can’t get along, authorize one side.”

Kathmandu : Mahanta Thakur and Upendra Yadav of the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal have informed the Election Commission that they cannot agree and unite in the current situation. According to an official of the commission, the two sides have called for a discussion on the party’s dispute and legitimacy.

Leaders have demanded that one faction be given official status under the Political Parties Act as there is no room for reconciliation. Dispute has erupted within the party over the dissolution of the House of Representatives and joining the government.

Mahanta Thakur’s faction had already participated in the KP Sharma Oli-led government saying that the dissolution of the House of Representatives was right. However, the Upendra Yadav faction has backed Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, saying Oli has acted in a reactionary manner.

As the dispute escalates, both sides have taken action against each other’s leaders. But the commission has not approved the action.
