‘Consensus’ of unity in the UML task force but ‘Oli and Nepal are the obstacles for unity’

Kathmandu: The task force formed for the unity of the CPN-UML has claimed that it has almost reached an ‘agreement’. The meeting of the task force, which lasted for more than seven hours on Friday, has decided the five main points of understanding. After the discussion, task force member and Oli faction leader Pradip Gyawali said that the issue of maintaining unity in the party had been resolved. “Today’s meeting is very long, cordial and intensive,” he told reporters. After a seven-hour meeting, we have reached an agreement to strengthen the unity of the party, ”he said, adding that another meeting would be held on Saturday to finalize the agreement document. He also requested to wait for 18 hours to know the points of agreement.

Gyawali’s response after the cheating is in his own words:

“We have spent today’s meeting of the task force in a very long, cordial and intensive discussion. We have spent about 7 hours and from the meeting we have reached an agreement to strengthen the unity of the party. We have postponed the meeting till tomorrow as we have to sit for a while tomorrow on some issues including some language modifications to finalize the consensus document. But I would like to share with you that we have brought all the current questions to a point of agreement. Therefore, we will now hold this meeting with the consent of the CPN (UML) leaders, cadres and well-wishers to allay their worries about the future of the party.

Necessary consultations with leaders are held regularly. But tomorrow we will finalize it. We have received a TOR from the task force to prepare a consensus proposal for resolving this issue. We will end on that basis.’

According to a member of the task force, the five points agreed upon by the task force are to make the party fully operational before Jestha 2, 2075 BS, to make the people’s organizations active by accepting the same on the same date. It has been written in such a way that it is clear that the number will be added from ex-maoist side on the central committee and the same number will be added from the Madhav Nepal side also.

But the main obstacle is that Madhav Nepal will have the same status in the party in writing and legally as Chairman Oli, and will recognize the candidates in the upcoming election only with the signatures of Oli and Nepal. An official close to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said it was unlikely he would accept the offer of Madhav Nepal.
Oli’s wish is to influence the court’s decision by convincing Madhav Nepal to unite as soon as possible. On the other hand, Madhav Nepal said that the unity talks would be extended till the court’s verdict and what to do according to the court’s verdict.

The second tier leaders of the Oli faction especially Shubhas Nembang wishes is, the task force be activated by the fact that in case someone other than Oli becomes the prime minister, he can become the prime minister himself which is Madhav Nepal’s side demanded also.
On top of that, Bhim Rawal, who is considered to be Madhav Nepal’s right hand man for the last time, met Oli and agreed with him. This has put a lot of pressure on Madhav Nepal.
According to a leader, Madhav Nepal and KP Oli are unlikely to sign the agreement until the court verdicts.
