PM Oli brings massive reshuffle in his cabinet, Paudel, Mahato and Mahaseth sworn in as Deputy Prime Ministers

KATHMANDU, June 4: Caretaker Prime Minister  K P Oli has brought massive reshuffle in his cabinet included JSP leaders. The new cabinet has three Deputy Prime Ministers, 12 cabinet ministers and two state ministers. 

Prime Minister Oli has kept seven ministerial portfolios with him. While he has retained four ministers from his previous cabinet, Prime Minister Oli has appointed former minister Sher Bahadur Tamang as Minister for Health and Population.

Remaining eight ministers and two state ministers are from the Mahantha Thakur-led faction of the Janata Samajbadi Party. 

Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel, Education Minister Krishna Gopal Shrestha, Law Minister Lila Shrestha and Minister for Physical Infrastructures and Transport Basanta Nembang were continuing their portfolio. 

Bishnu Paudel (Finance Minister) and Raghubir Mahaseth (Foreign Minister) and Thakur-led JSP’s Leader Rajendra Mahato (Urban Development Minister) have been appointed Deputy Prime Ministers in the new cabinet.

According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, other ministers will be appointed soon based on the balance of power within the party and the relationship with Madhav Nepal. This is the 16th cabinet reshuffle of Prime Minister KP Oli. As Mahaseth, who is only a member of the party’s standing committee and is far below his preference, has been appointed deputy prime minister, the rest of the UML ministers will also be juniors.
