Karnali case: KP Oli’s vacate petition, UML Central Committee is the General Convention Organizing Committee

Kathmandu, : The Communist Party of Nepal (UML) has filed a review petition (vacate) against the Supreme Court order not to take action against four lawmakers of the party who crossed the floor in Karnal provincei. According to Baburam Dahal, legal adviser to UML chairman and prime minister KP Sharma Oli, the vacate was registered at the apex court on Sunday.

The hearing is scheduled for Tuesday. Although the party’s central committee is allowed to take action, it was mentioned in the order that the general convention organizing committee should not take such action as the UML now has a general convention organizing committee and not a central committee.

Stating that the party can take action against the party for violating the party’s whip in the parliamentary system, the statement said that the action taken against four persons in Karnali was in accordance with the Political Parties Act. UML MPs Prakash Jwala, Kurmaraj Shahi, Nanda Bahadur Budha and Amar Bahadur thapa was given a vote of confidence to the Chief minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi . After that they were dismissed from the post by the UML party. The four floor-crossing members belong to the Madhav Kumar Nepal group. Three of them are now ministers in Karnali province.
