NHRC Chairman for senior citizens’ rights protection

Kathmandu, April 13:Chairman of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Tapa Bahadur Magar has said that rights of the senior citizens should be ensured. Speaking at an interaction programme organised with the stakeholder sat NHRC on Monday, Chairman Magar said that the hospitals across the country should be made geriatric-friendly and the NHRC was holding talks with the agencies to make this happen. In regard to formulation of sixth strategic plan, the NHRC is soliciting feedback and doing consultation meetings with different sectors and communities. On the occasion, members of civil society and others involved in the rights protection of senior citizens were present. During the discussions, monitoring for the effective implementation of the existing laws and holding officials accountable and prioritizing the agendas of senior citizens in the budget, plan and programmes of the local levels were stressed. Officials from the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizen, Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Ministry of Health and Population, geriatric experts, campaigners, among others were present at the interaction programme.(RSS)
