Close the border immediately, make an isolation center

Neighboring India has lost control of the second wave of the Corona epidemic. In the past two week, more than 20,000 people have died from corona infections, and more than 300,000 new new cases have been reported every day. There is no record of those who have not been examined and whose deaths have not been registered. The general public is entering Nepal without any hindrance by land route from India, which has become the world’s corona hotspot. But the government of Nepal is sitting as if nothing has happened.

When two people were infected with corona in Nepal last year, all international borders between India and China were closed and traffic was banned from March 26, 2020. Even though the second wave of infection is spreading at a rapid pace, the border has not been closed and the health check-ups of the commuters have not been organized.

Infection has been seen in 670 people who entered Nepal from India from 1 to 10 Baishakh, 2078 BS. Thousands who have entered Nepal have not been tested. Of the more than 100,000 people who have entered Nepal from India in the last ten days, 5,971 have been tested for antigen and PCR, according to the Ministry of Health. Of those tests, about 12 percent showed infection, so it is not difficult to assess the severity of corona infection in the community. If this situation continues for a few more days, it is certain that Nepal will be in a much weaker position than India.

Therefore, the border should be closed immediately without any hesitation. Arrangements should be made for Nepalis living in India who want to come to Nepal to be systematically tested and placed in holding centers and isolation centers. For that, there should be good coordination between the concerned state government and the local level and close monitoring, monitoring and all kinds of assistance from the federal government.

It is unfortunate that the Ministry of Health and Population has put 14 districts in the Valley and Terai-Madhesh at high risk of infection even a year and a half ago.

The Ministry of Home Affairs should close the border checkpoints and mobilize the district administration, police and armed forces in coordination with the local bodies.

The checkpoint should be closed on the way. Food and transportation and trade and commerce should not be hindered in any way.

In recent days, about 3,000 new infections have been added daily. The death rate is rising. According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 14 30 people have died from the infection in the last 1 weeks in an average. So far, the total number of infected has reached 297,087. The death toll has reached 3136. There are still 16,828 actively infected. Adding 3,000 infected people, the number of cures is only 368. This shows a huge gap between the infected and the cured. This is a terrible situation in itself.

To say let’s see or wait for a few days in such a situation is like rejoicing in counting the death toll. Therefore, the government should not delay a single moment in learning to reduce the immediate risk along with health related infrastructure and first aid work. Various countries of the world have imposed all kinds of travel bans from the countries that have become corona hotspots at this time. This is definitely not in their interest. It is an obligation. Closing our border checkpoints is also an essential way to avoid high health risks. This fact should not be misunderstood by anyone in any other way.
