Kathmandu, March 4 :

The government and the Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’-led Maoist party have signed a three-point agreement, in which the outfit involved in various violent activities agreed to continue its functioning peacefully.

According to a statement issued by leaders of the talk teams of both sides, the party would raise its concerns and issues by peaceful means.

On the other hand, the government would also lift the ban imposed on the party.

Likewise, the government would release all leaders and cadres of the party arrested in the recent years.

Other details of the deal will be made public during a special function on Friday. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Biplav himself will address the event on behalf of the government and the party respectively.

Citing its activities such as explosions, murder, and extortion amount to terrorism, the government had banned the outfit in 2019. Since then, it has been arresting leaders and cadres whenever they were found. It has forced the party leaders to stay underground.

However, of late, the party had expressed its interest in dialogues to raise its concerns. Accordingly, the formal talks had begun on Wednesday.
