PM Oli agrees to revoke Constitutional Council Ordinance

Prime Minister and Chair of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) KP Sharma Oli has agreed to revoke the Constitutional Council Ordinance issued on Tuesday.

According to NCP standing committee member, Oli approved to withdraw the ordinance after a discussion with executive chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda on Wednesday. Amid controversy within the NCP, Oli had introduced an ordinance on the Constitutional Council, on Tuesday.

The ordinance was issued by President Vidyadevi Bhandari yesterday. Soon after as the ordinance was issued, the Prachanda-Nepal faction had strongly opposed Prime Minister Oli.

NCP executive chairman Prachanda had said that the ordinance should be withdrawn immediately. Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota was not present at the meeting of the Constitutional Council convened by Chairman KP Sharma Oli on Tuesday. Similarly, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba was also not present at the meeting convened by Oli.
