Dongguan hands Wuhan third straight defeat in WCBA

CHENGDU, China, Oct. 8 – Dongguan inflicted the third consecutive loss on Wuhan, 80-62, in the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA) league here on Wednesday.

Dilana Dilishati finished with a game-high 21 points. Zhang Dongxia registered a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Dongguan established a 22-12 advantage after the first quarter, with Dilana scoring 10 points to lead the way.

In a fiercely contested second quarter, which was halted by fouls often, Dongguan managed to go up by 19 points clear at halftime through steady performance on the free throw line, and went uncontested from Wuhan back from the locker room.

Li Xiu led Wuhan with 14 points, but no other player scored in double figures. Wuhan was held to 3 of 26 shots beyond the arc.

“We contained their three-pointer shooting quite well,” Dongguan coach Lin Yaosen reflected.

Despite three losses in a row coming into the season, Wuhan coach Li Xin expressed her satisfaction in some respects.

“We are not a strong team, but we have shown our mentality and fighting spirit to make games more appealing, which is beneficial to the league,” she said.
