Quarantine after swab collection: MoHP

Kathmandu, Aug 23

The Ministry of Health and Population has urged all those who give their swab sample for Corona Virus testing to quarantine themselves until the report of the test arrives.

This request comes after it came to be known that some people had been mixing themselves with others after giving their swab sample for testing, increasing the risk of infection. Likewise, responding to complaints about health workers including nurses and paramedics in government hospitals not wearing PPE, MoHP Spokesperson Dr Jageswar Gautam said all those concerned are requested to report at the Ministry’s call centre (1115 and 1133) to get a PPE set for themselves.

In wake of the rising number of infection in the capital, Dr Gautam also urged all the primary contact-the people who have come close to an infected person, to give their swab sample for Corona Virus testing. “The swab sample however should be given within five to seven days of contact with an infected, otherwise there is risk of ‘false negative’ report in case the test is carried out soon after contact with a person who has tested positive in a PCR test,” he said.

The MoHP has designated 14 hospitals in Kathmandu valley to collect swab samples for testing. Those include TU Teaching Hospital, Birendra Army Hospital, Civil Service Hospital, Star Hospital, Patan Hospital, Bir Hospital, Nepal Police Hospital, Bhaktapur Hospital, Armed Police Hospital, HAMS hospital, Nepal-Korea Friendship Hospital, among others.

So far, 592,418 PCR tests for Corona Virus have been completed in the country, with 31,117 cases of COVID-19. Of them, 18,350 have recovered while 146 have died.
