Kathmandu, Aug 27
The National Sports Council (NSC) has expressed its concerns over the incident of caste-based beating record holder athlete Chandra Kala Lamgade.
Lamgade, who represents Nepal Police Academy, was beaten by locals Durga Shrestha and Bishnu Shrestha, when she tried to save a Dalit youth from beating on August 23 at Charaali in Mechinagar Municipality-13 of Jhapa district.
In a press statement issued by the Council’s vice-president Shiva Koirala here today, the Council has condemned the thrashing of Lamgade based on caste and demanded stern action against the culprit.
Council has pledged support for Lamgade for her treatment at B & C Hospital at Birtamode, Jhapa. Lamgade had clinched two gold medals at the 8th National Games.
