Leader Nepal opposes Indian External Minister’s remarks on Buddha’s birthplace

Kathmandu, Aug 9

Ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) senior leader and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has objected to the remarks made by External Affairs Minister of India S Jaishankar on birthplace of Gautam Buddha.

Leader Nepal stated that Indian Minister’s remarks on Buddha’s birth were baseless. In a twitter status today, the former Prime Minister expressed the concerns saying that such baseless remarks on sensitive issues worsen the bilateral ties.

He reminded, “Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the Nepal’s parliament had mentioned that Buddha was born in Nepal and the historical facts have already proved that Lord Buddha was born in Nepal therefore there was no controversy over the issue.

Leader Nepal also urged the Government of Nepal to hold formal talks with Indian sides regarding this issue. Addressing a virtual conference on Saturday, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar claimed that Gautam Buddha was born in India adding.

“We know Gautam Buddha and Mahatma Gandhi as nice Indians,” the Indian leader said on Saturday.
