Baglung 7 Aug : Newar community’s cultural procession and performances here have been put off in a bid to contain the risk of coronavirus infection. Shakya Kalyan Samaj Baglung\s secretary Manjul Shakya informed it was decided to hold on performances of all dances as part of the Bhadaure procession this year. “We took the decision to put off cultural procession in view of critical situation resulting from coronavirus pandemic”, he said.
The artists from Newar community used to perform Lakhe, Bassa, Ropain, Jogi, Howa, Ghoda and Katuwal dances among others from Janai Poornima (a sacred thread wearing day) every year. The processions are taken as a medium for promoting fraternity, reunion, social cohesion and entertainment. Culture expert Prem Chhota said the Newar ethnic group which came from Bhaktapur, Dhulikhel and Bhadgaun has recently started the culture of procession in Baglung.
