Call for release of arrested students

Nepal Students’ Association has demanded the release of its members arrested from Kathmandu and Birgunj.

Issuing a statement on Friday, NSU president Rajiv Dhungana has said that the students arrested during peaceful protests should be released immediately and without any conditions. The students in Birgunj were arrested while staging a peaceful protest calling for regular health services and just compensation for the families of those who lost members to Corona Virus. Likewise, the students in Kathmandu were arrested as they were going to put forth their demands before the rector of Tribhuvan University, the statement reads.

The students were arrested while calling for alternative education and examinations through online means considering the future of the students. NSU General Secretary Dipak Bhattarai said that it was unfortunate that the students were being arrested for taking part in peaceful protest, calling for just demands.

The NSU has called for immediate release of student leaders Shyam Raj Ojha, Samjhana Khatri, Hari Joshi, Bishnu Poudel, Ganesh Thani, Ramesh Kunwar, Sanjaya Chaudhary and others.
