Nepalguj 17 Aug : Eighty-five landless families at Gayatrinagar in Nepalgunj are finding hard to manage food after they became jobless with COVID-19 pandemic. The daily wage earners have been out of work since the pandemic. The condition of people with disabilities, incapacitated, single women, and aged are in more pathetic condition without any means of earning. According to local Krishna Bahadur Kami, daily wage workers, auto rickshaw pullers, masons, vendors and owners of small-scale shops have lost the source of income due to the corona crisis. “Food has run out of stock.

We are without money at all and no work,” said a local leader Lal Bahadur Pariyar, adding that many people in the area like him are struggling to meet daily needs. Pariyar who is also disabled hopes for food support from somewhere else.

Though the local government and other organisations in April had provided relief assistance to these people, the four-month-long coronavirus lockdown and subsequent restrictive orders have made their problems worse, said Nepalgunj submetropolis-20 ward chair Krishna Karki. Karki said there was no situation for food support from the local level to them at the moment, but he was trying to address the issues with the help of other social organisations.
