Lusaka, July 10 :
Zambian President Edgar Lungu has called on warring factions in the country’s soccer governing body to resolve their wrangles before the world football governing body bans the country, his office said on Friday.
FIFA has given the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) up to July 10, 2020, to resolve its disputes after one of the aspiring presidential candidates Damiano Mutale dragged the soccer body to court after he was stopped from contesting the elections.
Lungu said the warring factions should resolve their differences before the FIFA deadline.
He expressed concern that Zambian football has continued to be fraught with in-fighting, which needs to be tackled.
He, however, said the government would not interfere in the running of football and all he wants to see was that Zambia was not punished by FIFA so that citizens could continue enjoying the game they love.(Xinhua)
