KMC urges not to crowd up in processions and festivals

Kathmandu, July 31

Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has urged the revelers not to crowd up while celebrating the festivals and cultural processions in view of increasing outbreak of the coronavirs.

“The coronavirus infection risk has increased in the Kathamndu Valley lately. The festive season is aeady in our threshold. This is a challenging time for us”, KMC mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya said. “In the earlier days, the dwellers of the KMC and Kathmandu Valley had fully followed the lockdown order and helped make the Valley peaceful.

With the relaxation of lockdown, the inflow of people from out of the Valley has increased causing higher risks of pandemic outbreak. There is no alternative but to adopt stringent alert measures during such difficult time”, he said while addressing the 50th executive meeting of the KMC. The situation of Kathmandu Valley would go further worse if the Home administration did not take concrete measures to check the rampant inflow from outside, Shakya added. If the preliminary reports findings are something to go by, people coming from outside the Valley are said to have infected more, he further noted.

It requires higher attention to prevent the unregulated entrance of the people to Kathmandu from outside as there is high chance of community transmission of the virus from them, mayor Shakya added. Also speaking on the same occasion, KMC deputy mayor Hari Prabha Khadgi stressed the need that the Kathmandu Valley Municipalities Forum should develop a shared voice in regard to the celebration of festivals nad cultural procession during the difficult time.

The meeting has endorsed the KMC Disaster Management Fund (Operation) Guideline 2020 and Health Institutions Registration and Up-gradation Guideline-2020
