clashes between locals and police personnel

Lalitpur , July 4

There is clashes between locals and police personnel at Khokana  of Lalitpur districts. The clashes has taken place after people started planting paddy on the land on the fast track.

The police have obstructed the farmers who were planting paddy in protest against the destruction of fertile land in the name of development. According to Vidya Shrestha, treasurer of the Valley-wide Road Victims’ Association, the protest was staged as the government was working to destroy green and fertile land or Newars in the name of development projects. He said that they were protesting against the government’s attempt to destroy the Newa civilization of 3,000 years.

Nepal Police and Armed Police Force are mobilized in the morning after the farmers started planting paddy jointly. Police had started chanting slogans after they are not allowed to plant paddy. The locals had gathered at the Rudrayani temple and reached Khudol

. Locals have protested saying that cultural heritage should not be destroyed in the name of development. Some people have been injured in the clash. Four policemen are also injured. Police fired seven rounds of tear gas to control the situation. 
